Our Story: From One Machine to a Global Precision Manufacturer

Nelsons CNC is a specialist CNC machine shop based on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, manufacturing high-quality aluminium knock-in end caps designed as a long-lasting alternative to traditional black plastic and die-cast end caps.

The business began in 2008 when Charlie Nelson founded Nelsons CNC. With more than 20 years of hands-on experience as a CNC machinist working in aluminium fabrication for commercial and industrial projects, Charlie saw a clear gap in the market for a better end cap solution. Plastic and die-cast caps were often failing too quickly, looking worn over time, and taking away from the finish of otherwise high-quality aluminium work.

Using his machining knowledge and a single CNC machining centre, Charlie designed and produced the first Nelsons CNC aluminium end cap. Precision-machined from quality aluminium, each end cap was designed with a tight interference fit and a bevelled edge underneath, allowing it to be tapped securely into the end of a post or extrusion using a rubber mallet. No welding, no adhesives, no unnecessary extra work, just a clean, permanent finish built to last.

What started as a one-man operation with one machine has grown steadily over the years through a strong focus on quality, continuous improvement, and meeting customer demand. That focus on practical innovation was recently recognised when Charlie was awarded an Innovator Award at the Australian Fencing Industry Conference for his contribution to manufacturing solutions within the fencing industry.

Today, Nelsons CNC operates nine advanced CNC machines, with two running day and night supported by robotic automation. This allows us to maintain precision while increasing production capacity and consistency. Our team has grown to ten skilled staff who share the same commitment to quality aluminium machining.

That growth has also taken us well beyond Australia. Nelsons CNC now supplies precision aluminium end caps to customers across New Zealand, the United States, Canada, and parts of Europe. Whether it’s a local fabricator on the Sunshine Coast or a large manufacturer overseas, customers rely on Nelsons CNC for consistent quality, fast turnaround, and end caps that fit properly every time.

Our range now includes hundreds of standard sizes in both metric and imperial to suit square, rectangular, round and elliptical extrusions, along with custom machining for specialised requirements. All caps are machined from premium 6060 T5 aluminium, media tumbled for a smooth finish, and supplied in mill finish as standard, making them colour-ready for powder coating, anodising, or timber-look finishing to suit the final project
